Ingredients
  

For the Pretzel Bites

  • 2 cups warm water Make sure the water is warm but not hot.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Can substitute with instant yeast.
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup coarse sea salt

For the Cheese Sauce

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  • In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Mix in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead until smooth.
  • Divide the dough into small pieces and roll into bites.

Cooking

  • Boil water and baking soda in a pot. Add pretzel bites for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • For the cheese sauce, heat heavy cream in a pan, then stir in cheddar cheese until melted.
  • Serve pretzel bites warm with cheese sauce.

Notes

Serve pretzel bites warm from the oven. They are best enjoyed fresh. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze them for longer storage. Brush with melted butter right after baking for extra flavor.
