  • 1-2 cups Dried fruit such as apricots, dates, cranberries, or raisins
  • 1-2 cups Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, or pecans
  • 1-2 cups Olives or pickled vegetables
  • 1 jar A sweet spread such as honey, fig jam, fruit preserves, or pepper jelly
  • optional Cornichons, hummus, mustard, fresh herbs, dark chocolate, or roasted vegetables Optional extras

Instructions

Preparation

  • Choose a large serving surface such as a wooden board, slate platter, large tray, or clean countertop.
  • Prepare the ingredients by slicing firm cheeses, cutting fruit into easy-to-eat pieces, folding or rolling cured meats, and placing spreads in small bowls.

Arrangement

  • Arrange the larger items first, creating natural anchors with bowls of olives, pickles, jams, mustard, or nuts.
  • Space cheeses around the board in various shapes such as wedges, cubes, slices, and a whole soft cheese.
  • Fold prosciutto loosely, layer salami in overlapping rows, or roll slices into ribbons. Place meats near cheeses and crackers.
  • Fill in open spaces with fruit, dried fruit, nuts, and pickled vegetables, grouping similar items while keeping contrasting colors nearby.
  • Add crackers and bread in small stacks or fanned around the edges for easy access.
  • Finish the board with garnishes such as fresh rosemary, thyme, edible flowers, or drizzles of honey.

Serving

  • Serve the board as an appetizer with wine, sparkling water, cocktails, or cider.
  • Add a simple green salad or vegetable platter for a more complete light meal.
  • Provide small cheese knives, spreaders, cocktail picks, and napkins for guest convenience.
  • For a brunch-style board, include mini pastries, boiled eggs, smoked salmon, and fresh berries.

Notes

Store leftover meats, cheeses, and fresh produce separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Soft cheeses and sliced meats are best enjoyed within a few days. Store crackers and bread to protect their texture and avoid freezing the assembled board.
