Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the vanilla extract and one egg at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed in the dough.
  • Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra chewy cookie, chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze for up to three months.
